Six tips on how to reduce production costs and increase your competitiveness
Monitor ERP system is a reliable ERP system provider with 50 years of experience on the Swedish market. Below you will find six tips on how to reduce production costs and increase your competitiveness:
1. Reliable basic data
If you keep the basic data registers in Monitor ERP updated, Monitor ERP delivers reliable decision-making support based on accurate data. Keeping the basic data registers updated with current information is the foundation for an ERP system to provide accurate order proposals and forecasts in your organization. Some examples of basic data that are important to keep updated include:
- Purchase lead times and prices for purchased items.
- Planning parameters such as safety stock and order quantity.
- Routing for items in terms of correct material and operation time.
- Capacity of production groups.
- Standard prices for purchased and manufactured items.
2. Plan material purchases and capacity
When planning far into the future, unpredictable disruptions often arise that must be efficiently managed on a daily basis. Daily management serves as the perfect support for planning the day's work in your morning meeting. Replace or complement the 'analog' version of daily management, which is usually just a large whiteboard, with Monitor ERP’s Daily management. Today's operations and staffing are advantageously displayed on a larger screen in production, and you can easily plan the team's day and move operations and staffing as needed.
3. Follow up production
How effective were different production groups over the past week or month? Where are the bottle necks in production? Which products are profitable? With Monitor ERP’s smart standard functionality, you can easily gather the data needed to answer these questions. Monitor ERP is created with the needs of the manufacturing industry in mind and a lot of development comes through having dialog with our customers.
4. Stock accounting and management accounting for cost follow-up
Reliable cost follow-up is essential for a cost-effective organization. Keep an eye on WIP and stock values in real-time in the general ledger with the help of stock accounting and management accounting. This means you won’t have to record WIP and stock values manually in your monthly accounts. You can always see the current stock values. Management accounting records worked hours on a manufacturing order in the income statement and provides a good financial follow-up, for example, per department and per cost factor. Calculation differences on manufacturing order are posted, and can be followed-up on, e.g. per product, or down to order level. Cost per sold item can be followed up on at a detailed level.
5. Implement automation for your administrative procedures
There are technological solutions in Monitor ERP which allow you to automate different production tasks which leads to increased efficiency and minimizes the risk of forgetting to send an important report, for instance. An ERP solution that works well - integrates and automates not only your business processes, but can also generate forecasts and estimates which are useful in areas like production planning, delivery times, and performance monitoring both pre- and post-production. The Agent option in Monitor ERP handles daily and weekly reporting for you, ensuring that the right person receives the right report, at the right time. Agent can also calculate inventory levels and order quantities.
6. Automations and increased production capacity
Monitor ERP focuses strongly on “Industry 4.0”, which means creating smart, digital factories where systems and machines are connected to the internet and integrated with each other, leading to greater efficiency and fewer errors. Monitor’s contributions to Industry 4.0 are integrations such as Machine integration for improved machine monitoring, OEE follow-up, more accurate reporting, and OPC protocol in order to collect many different types of measuring data. By reducing machine stops, increasing production during the process and ensuring that production lines are working at an optimal level, you can indirectly reduce production costs and create more competitive products.
High bay storage integration with WMS system to optimize stock and picking. We have an integration with Weland, Kardex and Constructor. If you have another WMS system that manages your stock, we can create an integration for it.
If you work with cutting processing and punching, Nesting Integration can be a useful solution. The nesting program is used to optimize sheet material utilization by placing parts effectively when cutting which leads to less waste - important for both economy and the environment. Monitor ERP exports the priority plan to the nesting program, and when an order is produced, the results are imported back to Monitor ERP, updating the manufacturing order with the quantity produced, actual time per order, and actual material consumption. This saves a lot of time, as all reporting takes place automatically.
These are just some of the examples of the integrations we have built.
